Historically, imaging studies in athletes with injuries have focused on size and site of tear, muscle component affected, and haematoma formation, but more recent studies have focused on the integrity of the connective tissues associated with the muscle injury. The aim of this presentation is to examine the role of imaging and what it can tell us about muscle injuries. In particular, the presentation will show that muscle injuries are not really muscle injuries per se, but failure of the connective tissue scaffold.
