Back to basics: the dreaded dialysis AV fistula scan
14m
Using contrast for imaging purposes on patients with renal failure is not particularly ideal; fortunately, Duplex Ultrasound is generally a readily available imaging modality ideally suited for these patients as it provides a non-invasive, contrast and radiation free method for assessing the viability of their dialysis arteriovenous fistulae. Thereís just one tiny problem with using an imaging modality highly dependent on the users interpretationÖ.how do you determine significant pathology in what is essentially pathology itself?
In this session I will be going back to the basics and discuss a Vascular Sonographers approach to scanning dialysis arteriovenous fistulae. I will also be exploring some of the pathology you may be confronted with and what steps you can take to best understand its significance to the overall arteriovenous circuit.
