Ultrasound assessment of the ankle is one of the most commonly requested musculoskeletal examinations because of its wide availability, cost effectiveness, accuracy and safety. The superficial position of the ankle tendons makes ultrasound the ideal initial radiological investigation for pathology potentially involving the ankle tendons. This presentation will outline the tendons of the ankle that are evaluated during routine practice, covering the anatomy and normal sonographic appearance. The pathological conditions affecting the ankle tendons and how to diagnose these with ultrasound will also be covered.
